How can I open a powerpoint file from an email?



My girlfriend goes to the University of Wisconsin, and everytime we try and open a power point file it does not open.
I have forewarded it to my hotmail, but it still does not work.
I have tried to save target as, and also just clicking on it but it does not bring up the save/open box.
Any ideas?
