I got a email scam from somebody pretending to be from paypal and asking for my password what happens to them?

So the first thing I did was foreward it to pay pal. but what i want to know is what happens to the scammers. do they track the email then send them to prison? And also did they target me cause they know i use paypal? Or is it just a random guess and they just hope the people have one?

Paypal never does anything to those people because they use fake email addresses that they register for only half a day at a time, then they shut it down. They also use dynamic shadow IPs so its almost impossible to trace these people.

Nothing will happen. Maybe the email account will get canceled.

You probably weren’t targeted. Just a mass email campaign. And you got to figure atleast 50% of the people have paypal.

98% of the time, those guys are in Nigeria, and pretty much above the law.

It’s probably just random. They got hold of a lot of email addresses and sent out the same email to everyone. They’re relying on the law of averages to land enough people who do use PayPal and are too naive or inexperienced to know the signs.

    Hope that helps.
