I filed my taxes online yesterday and was rejected because I used the wrong AGI amount. I fixed it and resent it but I am uncertain of the status so I sent it the paperwork through mail today. What happens if the IRS receives two identical returns?
You should get confirmation from the IRS confirming receipt of the electronically filed return. Once you do call the IRS and notify them that a “True Duplicate” return has been sent via the mail, they can notate your account to help avoid delays in the processing of the efiled return
You will probably be audited by them. They would never file them both because income tax is filed by SSN and everyone only has one, so if the same one comes through twice it will bring up a red flag. This is an easy fix, you might even contact the IRS and see what they recommend you do. Good Luck because being audited only delays the process.
You may want to contact the IRS, but they will probably just reject the second one and work the first one. They may send you a letter to let you know that you filed twice and that the second one received will not be processed.
If you filed by paper first then e-filed and the e-file was received second, then the e-file will be soundly rejected. It sounds like a harsh word, but it just means they will not process it. Nothing to worry about.

Whichever one gets there first, presumably the efiled one if it’s accepted this time, is used, the other is rejected.
