Clinton loaned her campaign $5 million

Spokesman Howard Wolfson emails:

Late last month Senator Clinton loaned her campaign $5 million. The loan illustrates Sen. Clinton’s commitment to this effort and to ensuring that our campaign has the resources it needs to compete and win across this nation. We have had one of our best fundraising efforts ever on the web stoday and our Super Tuesday victories will only help in bringing more support for her candidacy.

As I reported earlier, she’s drawing on a pool of personal wealth estimated to be as much as $41 million, as well as a reported payout to Bill Clinton of $20 million from the Los Angeles billionaire manager Ron Burkle.

  1. Magma H Says:

She made money through her book deals.
She’s intent on seeing her campaign through.

Why would you say she’s dishonest.
She could have kept this quiet.

  2. Ambrose Says:

Sure. Already have donated to her campaign.

  3. bill blasphemy Says:

Mitt Romney is spending a vast amount of his family fortune on his run for the presidency. What’s that make him?

  4. Mr Shiraz Says:

I wouldnt loan them 5 cents

  5. Brian Says:

I wouldn’t give either one a nickel but if I did I’m sure they would split it up on people that deserve that nickel more than I do..

  6. delphi Says:

I wouldn’t give my money to any politician.

  7. Megara Says:

If she loaned the money to her campaign, I fail to see what that has to do with loaning her money. Could you be more explicit in your claims about the connection between the two things, please?

Hillary Clinton doesn’t need me to lend her money. She’s got plenty. That’s why I make no monetary contributions to anyone’s political campaign. Politicians have enough money.

  8. ugotthat Says:

How do you figure they are less than honest? They got their wealth legitimately after they left office. Book deals, speaking engagements etc. It’s their’s to spend and if they want to use it to run for public office more power to them. Bloomberg was considering the same and he’s a billionaire.
Ross Perot did the same. Using your legitimately gained wealth for personal gain is hardly dishonest or illegal.

  9. a.j. Says:

RLP, you’re an admitted Republican, so why are you trying to denigrate Hillary Clinton’s name? Are you afraid that she’ll defeat McCain???

  10. Melissa H Says:

Does it matter? Everyone running has money in their pockets, none of them are dirt poor I promise you. You don’t want to invest all your own money first because if your campaign fails you will have nothing left… and why not take money from supporters? If they are willing to donate, let them. And like the person said earlier, at least she leaked the story herself.

  11. firewomen Says:

You bet, all she has to do is ask.

  12. justagrandma Says:

They made their money after they left office, Hillary’s written several best sellers, and Bill gets huge fees for speaking engagements, just as Bush One, and Ford did.
In fact its inspired Bush Two to talk about getting on the lecture circuit and making the big bucks. He hasn’t offered to write a book yet though.

  13. The Original RP McMurphy Says:

If she needs money, why didn’t she just put her expertise trading pork belly futures to work again?

  14. jon s Says:

YOU STATE THE CLINTINS ARE LESS THEN HONEST AFTER 8 BUSH // CHENEY YEARS !!! GET A LIFE BUSH//CHENEY HAVE STOLEN TRILILLIONS OF $ FROM YOU, YOUR GREAT,GREAT GRANDCHILDREN!

  15. Dexmonte Says:

She’s using her own money, so what.
What you ought to be whining about is Rudy G raising
almost 50 million, and campaigning in only 1 state (Florida).
Where did all that money go to?

  16. Rhonda S Says:

No, interesting though, I wonder if she periodically writes a check to the IRS since she thinks her taxes should be higher.

  17. Truth B. Told Says:

No, I wouldn’t loan them because I know they will take from me threefold in taxes.

  18. Willis Jeffords Says:

I’d loan them $5.00. If she puts it in cattle futures, I’d get $500 back.
