How do I go about creating an email newsletter?

I have a small business and I am considering doing an email newsletter like I get all the time from various companies. I am a graphic design and only know basic HTML, but I’m not sure if that’s enough to be able to create one on my own. Are there any sites or tutorials on how to create an email marketing campaign on your own?
I want to use graphics too.

What Happened to Our Dreams of Freedom?

Individual freedom is the dream of our age. It’s what our leaders promise to give us, it defines how we think of ourselves and, repeatedly, we have gone to war to impose freedom around the world. But if you step back and look at what freedom actually means for us today, it’s a strange and limited kind of freedom.

Politicians promised to liberate us from the old dead hand of bureaucracy, but they have created an evermore controlling system of social management, driven by targets and numbers. Governments committed to freedom of choice have presided over a rise in inequality and a dramatic collapse in social mobility. And abroad, in Iraq and Afghanistan, the attempt to enforce freedom has led to bloody mayhem and the rise of an authoritarian anti-democratic Islamism. This, in turn, has helped inspire terrorist attacks in Britain. In response, the Government has dismantled long-standing laws designed to protect our freedom.

The Trap is a series of three films by Bafta-winning producer Adam Curtis that explains the origins of our contemporary, narrow idea of freedom.

It shows how a simplistic model of human beings as self-seeking, almost robotic, creatures led to today’s idea of freedom. This model was derived from ideas and techniques developed by nuclear strategists during the Cold War to control the behaviour of the Soviet enemy.

Mathematicians such as John Nash developed paranoid game theories whose equations required people to be seen as selfish and isolated creatures, constantly monitoring each other suspiciously – always intent on their own advantage.

This model was then developed by genetic biologists, anthropologists, radical psychiatrists and free market economists, and has come to dominate both political thinking since the Seventies and the way people think about themselves as human beings.

However, within this simplistic idea lay the seeds of new forms of control. And what people have forgotten is that there are other ideas of freedom. We are, says Curtis, in a trap of our own making that controls us, deprives us of meaning and causes death and chaos abroad.

[Information Liberation Editors Note: In typical Adam Curtis fashion he spins the issues to make the establishment seem like innocent dupes. In reality society is, and has always been, the product of social engineering by cunning behavioral control specialists. The control tactics and rhetoric have changed, but the agenda is still the same.

“The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country.

Global Warming: When did Obama annouce that he will be attending Copenhagen?

Recently major news broke out about Climategate which came out on November 14th and the e-mails were made public on the 21st. Major news stations are reporting that this is used as a tool to force Obama to reconsider going to the conference. Its said that Borack first announced he will be attending Copenhagen on November 25th but an unsure why the large media outlets are calling it a smear campaign if the emails were released before Obama ever announced if he would be attending….

Feminists: when it comes to stopping violence against women shouldn’t your enemies be male sociopaths?

Instead of men in general. I mean one of the main traits of rapists in particular and abusers is poor impulse control, which can also be a symptom of other conditions like AD/HD etc……. So shouldn’t you really be targeting a specific group, or at least telling men to stop these potential rapists from acting out.

This is the diagnostic criterion for sociopathy (anti-social personality disorder)

1.Persistent lying or stealing
2.Recurring difficulties with the law
3.Tendency to violate the rights and boundaries of others (property, physical, sexual, emotional, legal)
4.Substance abuse
5.Aggressive, often violent behavior; prone to getting involved in fights
6.A persistent agitated or depressed feeling (dysphoria)
7.Inability to tolerate boredom
8.Disregard for the safety of self or others
9.A childhood diagnosis of conduct disorders - this is not a symptom but “a history of”
10.Lack of remorse, related to hurting others
11.Superficial charm
12.Impulsiveness
13.A sense of extreme entitlement
14.Inability to make or keep friends
15.Recklessness, impulsivity
16.People with a diagnosis of antisocial personality disorder often experience difficulties with authority figures
:
This is the diagnostic criteria for psychopathy:

Factor1: Aggressive narcissism
1.Glibness / superficial charm
2.Grandiose sense of self-worth
3.Pathological lying
4.Cunning / manipulative
5.Lack of remorse or guilt
6.Shallow
7.Callous / lack of empathy
8.Failure to accept responsibility for own actions
9.Promiscuous sexual behavior
Factor2: Socially deviant lifestyle
1.Need for stimulation / proneness to boredom
2.Parasitic lifestyle
3.Poor behavioral control
4.Lack of realistic, long-term goals
5.Impulsivity
6.Irresponsibility
7.Juvenile delinquency
8.Early behavior problems
9.Many short-term marital relationships
10.Revocation of conditional release
Traits not correlated with either factor
1.Many short-term marital relationships
2.Promiscuous sexual behavior
3.Criminal versatility

As you can see we might just be looking at a particular subgroup of the male population here.
Though another important thing here is alcohol, which disinhibits the mind so your subconscious fantasies become reality, which can the mind affect any male in the population.
Some men though are more likely to continuously abuse alcohol and drugs, combined with promiscuous behavior, as in the group above.
Also those with bipolar affective disorder like me can fall easily fall into these states of disinhibition, with or without alcohol.
I guess all you need is some sick **** fantasy that a lot of men have, a semi-conscious disinhibited state of mind, and promiscuous and impulsive behaviour.

What are your opinions on this?
Zen & the Art of Mellie: I know what you mean, but even the most honest good men you’re talking about might possibly think about hurting a flea, and alcohol would allow them to do that, among other things, if you get what I mean.

Has anyone used gmail for sending email marketing advertisements & or other suggestions?

I have a website that is ready to launch and I wish to let all that inquired about it that the site is ready. I wish to send out emails, however due to my large list I do not want to run the risk that someone forgot that they inquired and then reports me for SPAM (happened to a friend). So I want to do my email campaigns separate from my domain just in case.
Has anyone used gmail for this and or the biz version? Or does anyone know an economical solution??? Thanks

god is a sociopath?

Glibness/Superficial Charm
Language can be used without effort by them to confuse and convince their audience. Captivating storytellers that exude self-confidence, they can spin a web that intrigues others. Since they are persuasive, they have the capacity to destroy their critics verbally or emotionally.

Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They dominate and humiliate their victims.

Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as “their right.” Craves adulation and attendance. Must be the center of attention with their own fantasies as the “spokesman for God,” “enlightened,” “leader of humankind,” etc. Creates an us-versus-them mentality

Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and able to pass lie detector tests.

Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.

Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion, it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.

Incapacity for Love
While they talk about “God’s love” they are unable to give or receive it. Since they do not believe in the genuineness of their followers’ love, they are very harsh in testing it from their devotees and expect them to feel guilt for their failings. Expects unconditional surrender.

Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge, yet testing the beliefs of their followers with bizarre rules, punishments and behaviors. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal.

Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others’ feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them. Their skills are used to exploit, abuse and exert power. Since the follower cannot believe their leader would callously hurt them, they rationalize the behavior as necessary for their (or the group’s) own “good” and deny the abuse. When devotees become aware of the exploitation it feels like a “spiritual rape” to them.

Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others. The followers only see them as near perfect.

Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet “gets by” by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.

Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others’ lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blame their followers or others outside their group. Blame reinforces passivity and obedience and produces guilt, shame, terror and conformity in the followers.

Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity
Totalist leaders frequently practice promiscuity, child sexual abuse, **** and sexual acting out of all sorts. This is usually kept hidden from all but the inner circle. Stringent sexual control of their followers, such as forced breakups and divorces, removal of children from parents, rules for dating, etc.

Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future. Many groups claim as their goal world-domination or other utopian promises. Great contrast between the leader’s opulent lifestyle and the followers’ impoverishment. Support by gifts and donations from the followers who are pressured to give through fear and guilt. Highly sensitive to their own pain and health.

Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility
Changes their image and that of the group as needed to avoid prosecution and to increase income and to recruit a range of members. Is able to adapt or relocate as needed to preserve the group. Can resurface later with a new name, a new front group and a new twist on the scam.

Should the fact that McCain never sent an e-mail count against him?

I found this argument online, so just read it:

“I don’t think the fact that Obama never served in the military should count against him in and of itself. But how stupid is it for the Obama campaign to claim that McCain is unqualified to be president because he can’t grasp cyber-security issues based on the fact he has never sent an email when the McCain campaign can just as easily say Obama can’t understand first order national security issues because he’s never fired a rife, flown a plane, commanded men in battle, or faced an enemy? I mean which prepares someone to be commander in chief better, hitting “send” on AOL or fighting a war?”

What do you think?
