Should the fact that McCain never sent an e-mail count against him?
I found this argument online, so just read it:
“I don’t think the fact that Obama never served in the military should count against him in and of itself. But how stupid is it for the Obama campaign to claim that McCain is unqualified to be president because he can’t grasp cyber-security issues based on the fact he has never sent an email when the McCain campaign can just as easily say Obama can’t understand first order national security issues because he’s never fired a rife, flown a plane, commanded men in battle, or faced an enemy? I mean which prepares someone to be commander in chief better, hitting “send” on AOL or fighting a war?”

It shows that McCain can not even understand the basics of our modern day. It is a very disturbing idea.

mccain never comaned any one in battle all he did was be come a pow after crashing 4 or 5 planes

No. But he would have been better off writing emails to people and reaching out to the younger generations that way. Don’t you agree?

How dare Obama attack McCain for not being able to use a computer when it has been said his war injuries prevent him from being able to use a keyboard and how dare Obama attack him for something so trivial when he has never served in the military and yet wants to be commander in chief.

john mccain is physically unable to even use a keyboard because of his injuries at the hands of his captors…barack is a sick pup for using this against mccain.

Hollywood has to make front page or else it fails its mission.

Bill Clinton can not use a computer either, he has his aids do all that for him!

That’s just the difference in mentality between the parties.
Republicans worry about a candidate we haven’t known very long having a racist, anti-American preacher as a mentor, an infamous Communist as a mentor, a domestic terrorists who still lusts for blood as an associate, and a convicted felon with ties to pro-Palestinians groups as an associate.
Democrats worry because McCain doesn’t do email.

Military action is only part of fighting a war. You can win a military action and loose the war. You have to actually talk, and negotitate, to either avoid a war or to end the war. If you can only fight it… then you’ve already lost. It’s not about who had the greatest punch. It’s about what each accomplished as a result of the war… which is decided in the negotiations.

Absolutely not.
The fact that so many people find his computer skills lacking is hilarious to me. One only needs to look at Y!A to realize that personal computers, while they serve a useful purpose, have also made people more distant & impersonal.

McCain has also never created a fire without rubbing two sticks together!

In the 8 years that Clinton was in office, he sent TWO emails…So, I’m gonna say it probably isn’t that important
June 7th, 2010 at 11:22 pm
I will tell you why it matters to me if he can’t send an email…
it tells me that he is not keeping up with the times..with today’s way of communicating… I don’t understand how anyone can hold a political office and not have some basic computer skills like writing an email. Does he get everything sent to him threw snail mail??
yes the man is a veteran … he does have a good idea of military and war…but even that has changed over the many years…. if he can’t keep up with something as simple as email how are we to know we has been able to keep up with the ever changing military??
just some thoughts
yes clinton did not email… but that was 8 years ago… even 8 years ago we did not email like we do now… and maybe clinton should of learned.. it bothers me that he didn’t. McCain may have old injuries but I know many other disabled people that email just fine.

His inability to use a keyboard is not an issue with me as long as he is at least familiar with computers and the internet and how they work.
But I am still not voting for him.
June 8th, 2010 at 7:19 am
It shows how out of touch McCain is with the modern world, so yes, that should count against him when he wants to lead the modern world.
June 9th, 2010 at 3:47 pm
I think the big point of the entire thing is that it separates him even further from the average American.
It didn’t matter that Clinton couldn’t type.. because the internet and computers were not the leading source of news/entertainment/random information.. and whatever else..
But to my generation (mid 20’s)… we got that first taste of things while we were growing up.. and to the kids or are just over 18 years old.. it puts a major separation between them, and him.
The last thing any politician needs is a clear separation between himself and his voters.
June 12th, 2010 at 12:12 am
I am sure our past presidents didn’t type their own letters either. This is just ridiculous.
June 12th, 2010 at 6:17 am
It’s being used to show how out of touch he is with modern society. We don’t know that Obama has never fired a rifle but McCain is of advanced years - he would be the oldest first term president we’ve ever had and Obama’s lack of military service is largely meaningless to me. Kerry was a war hero as well and the republicans mocked and ripped him a new one. I respect McCain for what he did but that was three decades ago and being a POW doesn’t, necessarily, entitle you to the presidency. Had Obama served in the military, we’d probably be arguing about how there were no wars going on at the time and it would amount to the same thing.
June 13th, 2010 at 6:26 pm
I get emails from McCain daily. Obama is petty and immature. Not Presidential material. If McCain is smart enough to have a good support staff to send his emails for him then who is smarter? The person spending his time worrying about e-mails? Or the person worrying about the Country?
June 15th, 2010 at 4:38 am
It’s apples and oranges. McCain is not going to be the commander of the internet. Cyber-security isn’t a major responsibility of the President. Commander in chief of the USA’s armed forced is one of the presidents primary functions. McCain’s experience clearly favors him on this issue.
June 17th, 2010 at 9:47 pm
The two issues are completely different. If one is able-bodied and minded, and their religion doesn’t preclude it(they aren’t a contentious objector),then one SHOULD serve in the military. However, there is no such thing attached to owning or using a computer. Many older people who are perfectly patriotic never touch one.

McCain is better prepared for the job of commander-in-chief. Have you ever heard of anyone being judged by his clerical skills for an executive position? Typing is considered a skill if you are an administrative assistant, but never an executive position. He has many people to take care of answering those emails.
