Is it illegal to send threatening emails?
My dad is running for school board in the small town him and my mom live in. He has uncovered some suspicious activity in the school and sent a post card out to the community with the uncovered information as a campaign tactic. Now, he is receiving threatening emails at his work…..asking him to step down from his run for school board or else…he got 20 one day from one IP address and his work blocked it. Then 16 the next from a different IP address. Can he take these IP address to the police to stop this?

It is a form of harrassment, the great thing about emails is he can print them off and has all the evidence he needs to go to court with…
Getting the rest of the info shouldn’t be hard with the phone company or the internet provider.
Your dad can carry them to court or swear a harassment warrent for them…
walla!
If they were sent from the persons work, the employer would be MOST upset with them, using company time and resources to harass some one…
Tisk tisk…

Yes, this type of harassment is definitely illegal. Especially if they are threatening your Dad’s welfare or your families. Sounds like this may all be coming from the same person. However, an IP address may be difficult to prove….
Good Luck

Yes. If you know an ip address the server can be contacted and the identity of the ip address can be found out. Here is a good site for deciphering the location, server and ultimately, identity of an ip address.

Don’t let these people take him down, print off all mail and any other info “even if you think it is not relevant” The people that are sending the mail seem frightened they will get found out. If they are corrupt take ” them” Down
