How do you find out if you’re registered to vote?
I keep getting emails about early voting, saying that tomorrow is the last day to register to vote in Ohio, that I can register to vote and vote at one time. I’m pretty sure I’m already registered, though. I recently got a letter telling me where my polling location is, and I’m pretty sure it said I’m registered but I no longer have the letter. I did early voting in the primaries, but it was only a few days before the election - I just went to the voter’s bureau and voted, which is what I plan to do again. So I should be ok, right? I wouldn’t have to re-register? All of these emails from the Obama campaign just have me worried because they keep saying I only have 1 more day to early vote if I’m not registered. I’m thinking there is a place online you can go to find out if you’re a registered voter. Where would I go to find that?
ETA: OK, I did a search on our local board of elections site and found my name with polling info. I assume this means I’m registered. Sorry, I’m just a little jaded about Ohio voting from the Ken Blackwell days…

generally you can contact your county’s registrar of voters.
however, if you voted in the primary, you don’t have to re-register. If you got a letter, you are registered

Yes, I got those emails too. I thought that I was registered, but I’m going to call my state’s election office tomorrow to double check. You can google yours and check too. I’m guessing it is in your state capital.

Go to the web site of your county supervisor of elections. You will find out the details there.

If you are a Democrat you need not do anything …they will contact you.
If you are a Republican, please contact your local Republican National Committee. They will assist you.

You get a voter’s registration card. I did. My vote goes in the mailbox. Ask your local county auditor.

Respond to the eMails. Volunteers with the campaign will get in touch with you and look up the information, help you to get registered by the deadline. At least that is how it works in Florida. Or you can call your supervisor of elections office. I know that in Florida you can always submit a new application for a voter’s registration card and mark it “Replace Lost Card” and then even if the card doesn’t come in the mail by voting day you can still take ID to your polling place and fill out a provisional ballot which WILL get your vote counted. In Florida we are advising people with potential “issues” about being registered to take an hour off work and go do early voting at a Supervisor of Elections office because the people there are more knowledgeable than the volunteers who work at neighborhood polling places on election day. I registered 5 new voters today, hooray for me and hooray for our American system of free and open elections.
